Zimbabwe Name Squad for T20I Series Against India
Zimbabwe have announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against India, with Sikandar Raza continuing as captain. The series begins on July 23 at the Harare Sports Club.
The hosts have made a few changes to the squad that recently featured against Bangladesh, including a maiden T20I call-up for wicketkeeper-batter Tafadzwa Tsiga.
Tafadzwa Tsiga Receives First T20I Call-Up
The biggest talking point in Zimbabwe’s squad is the inclusion of Tafadzwa Tsiga, who has earned his first-ever call-up to the national T20I side.
The wicketkeeper-batter has impressed in domestic cricket and now gets an opportunity to make his international debut against the reigning T20 World Cup champions.
Wessly Madhevere Returns
All-rounder Wessly Madhevere returns to the Zimbabwe setup after missing the previous series.
Fast bowler Newman Nyamhuri is also back after recovering from the injury that ruled him out of the Bangladesh series. Meanwhile, Tanaka Chivanga, who replaced Nyamhuri during that tour, has retained his place in the squad.
The trio replace Clive Madande, Tinotenda Maposa, and Tashinga Musekiwa.
Zimbabwe Looking to Bounce Back
Zimbabwe head into the series after suffering a 2-1 T20I series defeat against Bangladesh.
Despite the setback, the hosts will be encouraged by the return of experienced players and will look to challenge India in familiar home conditions.
Captain Sikandar Raza will once again play a crucial role with both bat and ball as Zimbabwe aim to produce an upset.
India Also Searching for Momentum
India arrive in Harare after enduring a difficult run in T20 internationals.
The visitors lost 2-0 to Ireland before suffering a 4-0 series defeat against England. They will be looking to return to winning ways under captain Shreyas Iyer.
The two teams last met during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, where India registered a comfortable 72-run victory over Zimbabwe.
