Afghanistan Set to Host India for Historic T20I Series in Delhi

Afghanistan are expected to host India in a three-match T20I series at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi this September. Although the schedule is yet to receive official confirmation, the matches are likely to be played on September 13, 15 and 17.
If confirmed, it will mark the first time Afghanistan host India on Indian soil, adding another milestone to the growing cricketing relationship between the two nations.
First Home Series Against India in India
Afghanistan have used India as their home venue for international matches over the past few years, staging games in Greater Noida, Dehradun, and Lucknow.
However, despite playing several home series in India, they have never previously hosted the Indian team. The upcoming T20I series is set to change that.
Important Part of India’s Busy Schedule
The T20I series fits into a packed calendar for India.
The team is scheduled to complete a two-Test series in Sri Lanka, with the second Test ending on August 27, before switching focus to the white-ball series against Afghanistan.
Following the T20Is, India are also expected to participate in the Asian Games, which begin later in September.
India Looking to Regain White-Ball Form
Despite entering the year as the reigning ICC Men’s T20 World Cup champions, India have struggled in recent white-ball assignments.
The team suffered a 2-0 series defeat in Ireland, followed by a 4-0 loss against England in the T20I series before also conceding the ODI series. India are currently touring Zimbabwe, where they are aiming to rebuild momentum ahead of a busy international season.
The Afghanistan series will provide another valuable opportunity to fine-tune combinations before upcoming global tournaments.
Afghanistan Return to T20I Action
Afghanistan have not played a T20 international since the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup earlier this year.
They won two of their four group-stage matches but narrowly missed qualification for the Super Eight stage.
The series against India will be their first T20I assignment since the World Cup and an important test against one of the strongest teams in world cricket.
Official Schedule Awaited
While the fixtures are expected to be played on September 13, 15 and 17 at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium, the respective cricket boards are yet to make an official announcement.
If approved, the series promises to provide exciting preparation for both teams ahead of their upcoming international commitments.
