Australia Recall Cummins, Hazlewood and Lyon for Bangladesh Test Series
Australia have announced a 13-member squad for the upcoming two-Test series against Bangladesh, with the return of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon providing a major boost ahead of the World Test Championship fixtures.
The experienced trio missed significant cricket due to injuries but are now back in the national setup as Australia begin a busy Test schedule over the coming months.
Senior Trio Return After Injury Layoffs
Captain Pat Cummins, fast bowler Josh Hazlewood and veteran spinner Nathan Lyon have all recovered from their respective injuries and have been included in the squad.
Hazlewood missed the remainder of the Ashes after suffering an Achilles injury, while Lyon has been out of competitive cricket since injuring his hamstring during the Adelaide Test. Cummins also spent several months recovering from a lower back stress injury and played only one Test during the Ashes before being rested as a precaution.
Their return restores Australia’s first-choice bowling attack ahead of an important Test series.
Selectors Back Experienced Core
Chairman of selectors George Bailey praised the efforts of the returning players, saying they had worked hard alongside Australia’s medical and sports science teams to regain full fitness.
Bailey also confirmed that additional players remain on standby if changes become necessary before the start of the series.
Pace Attack Gets Stronger
Australia’s fast-bowling department will feature an experienced group including Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins and Scott Boland.
All-rounders Cameron Green and Beau Webster also provide additional bowling options, giving the visitors plenty of flexibility for different conditions.
No Major Changes to Batting Line-up
The selectors have largely retained the existing batting group despite mixed performances during the Ashes.
Jake Weatherald is expected to continue opening the batting following Usman Khawaja’s retirement, while Marnus Labuschagne has retained his place despite an inconsistent recent run.
Backup wicketkeeper Josh Inglis has also been included and will compete for a place in the middle order.
Busy Schedule Ahead for Australia
The Bangladesh series marks the beginning of a demanding period for Australia, who are scheduled to play 14 Test matches over the next eight months.
The campaign includes major assignments in the ongoing World Test Championship, followed by a tour of India and a historic one-off Test against England to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Test cricket.
Australia currently sit at the top of the World Test Championship standings and will be aiming to strengthen their position with another successful overseas series.
